Dr. Tom Chao, is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with a specialty interest in sports medicine and complex sport injuries. He has worked with athletes ranging from college sports to the NFL and NHL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the classics, with emphasis on Greek and Latin, from the University of California - Irvine. While at UC Irvine, he graduated with honors as a double major.

He received his medical degree from the University of California-San Diego School of Medicine. From there, he returned to the University of California, Irvine to complete his orthopaedic residency. To further his interest in the field of sports medicine, Dr Chao spent additional time at the University of Pittsburgh where he trained under nationally esteemed sports medicine experts Drs James Bradley and the late Freddie Fu. University of Pittsburgh is known as the nation's top Sports Medicine program.

Dr Chao is especially trained in all facets of sports medicine and has a particular interest in treating multiligamentous knee injuries, revision surgeries, and complex sports injuries. He is also well-versed in hip arthroscopy and shoulder arthroplasty procedures.

In his free time, Dr Chao attempts to pursue an active lifestyle. He enjoys long distance running and is an avid road cyclist.
